Transitioning DCFS Wards to Independent Living
Wards of DCFS often experience difficulty transitioning into adult life. These youth may receive disability, are in danger of becoming homeless, or have a housing situation that might prevent emancipation from the agency.
The Youth Housing Advocacy program offered by Children’s Home + Aid provides assistance to wards and former wards of DCFS who are on the threshold of emancipation from the agency. The program provides assistance in securing affordable housing, consumer education, financial counseling, independent living skills training, and follow-up services after the client has secured appropriate housing. The program is available to DCFS wards age 21 and younger.
The Youth Housing Advocacy program is offered in the Mid-Central Region.
