During the first weekend in August 2018, Chicago experienced a devastating surge in gun violence with 74 shootings which resulted in 14 children victims.
With the increasing urgency to address youth violence in Chicago, innovative interventions are critical to get to the heart of the violence from multiple angles.
Youth who have been exposed to violence are more likely to become the victims or perpetrators of violence themselves. Our youth services focused on violence prevention uses a trauma-informed approach to meeting the needs of youth living in Chicago’s most fragile neighborhoods. We currently reach nearly 600 youth in Greater Englewood alone that are at risk for being the victim of or perpetrator of violence. Our approach addresses the risk factors of violence AND strengthening protective factors against violence. Recognizing that Englewood youth and families experience complex problems that defy any single intervention, program, or agency, we partner with other community organizations to build on our wraparound youth services.
