On Wednesday, April 18 Sherri O’Toole, Program Supervisor for our Stronger Beginnings for Families home visiting program, joined members of law enforcement from across Illinois at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield to release a new report by Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Illinois.

The report highlighted home visiting programs as an effective way to combat Illinois’ opioid epidemic. At the press conference, members of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Illinois, which included Illinois state’s attorneys, sheriffs and police chiefs, called on Illinois Governor Rauner and members of the Illinois General Assembly to bolster funding for home visiting programs.

The study found children who have parents addicted to opioids are more likely to become addicted themselves and that home visits are a proven strategy to making sure the trend does not continue.
