Each year, April is designated as the Month of the Military Child – a time to recognize and thank military children and youth for their heroism, character, courage, sacrifice and continued resilience. Today on Purple Up for Military Kids Day, Children’s Home & Aid staff from across the state wore purple to raise awareness of the unique contributions, sacrifices and needs of military children.
The Month of the Military Child provides a powerful opportunity to raise awareness and build support to help military children meet the unique challenges they face. Each year, one day is identified for communities to come together in a show of support for military children by wearing purple – this year that day is April 13.
Why purple? Purple – the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue -– symbolizes all branches of the military.
We thank military children and recognize the important role they play in our country!
We are proud to not only serve military children and families, but also to employ veterans and the family members of military personnel. In FY17, we served 222 military-affiliated families. Children’s Home & Aid is a member of the Illinois Hires Heroes Consortium (IHHC), a group of Illinois employers who recognize the great value veterans bring to the workplace and are committed to implementing military veteran recruitment, training and retention practices.
