Reaching Adolescents though Constructive Experiences
The Excellence Academy targets youth 11 years old and older who are in need of placement stability. These youth are placed in special foster care homes with foster parents who are trained to work with the children to develop discipline along with academic and social skills. The program includes weekly, professional in-home visits, service planning (which incorporates the services the Academy provides), respite, and extended support for the foster families. One of the biggest struggles facing at-risk foster children is maintaining interest and performance in school. Through mentoring, tutoring and positive support, The Children’s Home & Aid Excellence Academy helps students build confidence, self-esteem, life skills and academic skills.
Available services include: educational tutoring and study hall; independent living skills including life skills classes, employment readiness, computer literacy, and youth leadership. There are also mental health services including individual, group, and family therapy, recreational activities, and mentoring.
