Englewood Community Mural Unveiling
Over the summer, children and youth, elected officials, Children’s Home & Aid staff and more came together with the Englewood community for a mural unveiling at Ogden Park. Over 40 youth involved in the One Summer Chicago program worked hard in preparation for this unveiling with a local artist.
Ogden Park is home to a gymnasium, multi-purpose areas, three playgrounds, tennis courts, and a variety of other activities for the community. Painted with blue skies and colorful butterflies, the mural in Ogden Park reads “Vision Values Voice“. The words signify a powerful outlook on the community that is often considered one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city of Chicago.
The community project was designed to beautify the Englewood area while providing youth the opportunity to understand ways in which they can invest back into their community. Youth involved in the One Summer Chicago program were led by artist Bryant Jones to use their innovation and hard work to spread joy to the park grounds.
At the unveiling ceremony, youth and program leaders were recognized for their work with certificates and applause from community members. The youth celebrated their achievements with their family and peers at Ogden Park during the festive celebration.
