With Your Help – We Can Make the Holiday Season Brighter for Children & Families
For over 30 years, The Adopt-a-Family program has been providing families in need in Bloomington and surrounding communities with assistance during the holiday season. With the generous support of donors and volunteer’s, Adopt-a-Family provides families with toys, books, clothing and household necessities. In 2017, Adopt-A-Family provided gifts for more than 180 families, which included 517 total individuals.
How you can help:
- Adopt an individual or family. Each donor is provided a list of necessities for an individual or family. They then shop for the items on the list and deliver the items unwrapped to Children’s Home & Aid.
- Donate items from the Special Needs List. Provide a donation of loose gifts to help families during the holidays and throughout the year. For example: diapers, toys (of any kind), socks, underwear, sweat suits, etc. This option lets the donor purchase items to help families for the holidays and throughout the year. These items can be used for a profile where a donor wasn’t able to completely fill the needs of the family, or for families who were not able to be matched with a donor. Download the Special Needs List.
- Provide a monetary donation. Funds raised for the Adopt-A-Family Program are combined to provide for families who have not been adopted or for those having needs exceeding their donor’s giving potential. Any excess funds at the end of the program are used throughout the year to provide assistance to families when no other source of funding is available. An example of this use would be to provide eyeglasses to a child.
- Volunteer. Volunteers are needed to check-in gifts to ensure the family’s needs are met, wrap the gifts and prepare them for delivery by the caseworkers to the recipients in time for the holidays. Volunteers may also use monetary donations to shop for those who have not been adopted.
The wrapping center will be open from Monday, November 5, 2018 to Wednesday, December 19, 2018 (we will be closed November 12 in observance of Veteran’s Day and November 21-23 for Thanksgiving). The hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Donors will be notified of the location of the wrapping center, when they receive the profile of their child or family.
