Intensive Services for Youth in Crisis

Youth who have run away from home or have been locked out often have nowhere to turn and no one to turn to. When troubled youth are on the street, they are at greater risk of becoming victims of crime and there is an increased likelihood that they will turn to illicit behavior.

The Youth Services program offered by Children’s Home + Aid provides family counseling and crisis intervention to runaway and lockout youth between the ages of 11 to 17. Counseling services are provided either in the youth’s home, school or community and involves the youth’s parents, or guardians and addresses boundary setting, rewards and consequences, communication skills, and stress management. The program is voluntary. The primary program objectives are family preservation/reunification and to prevent placement of the youth in the state child welfare system.

Southern Region expands Youth Services

In August 2010, a long-standing mental health agency in Jersey County, Illinois closed its doors. They provided Comprehensive Community Based Youth Services (CCBYS) to five counties. When families in these communities were left without critical services for runaway and locked out youth, the Southern Region of Children’s Home + Aid responded by providing 24 hour coverage between August and October. The Department of Human Services requested that Children’s Home + Aid assume these services on a permanent basis. As of November 1, 2010, Children’s Home + Aid's Madison County CCBYS team began providing in home and community services to families in the following counties: Calhoun, Greene, Montgomery, Macoupin, and Jersey.
