Carrera Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program
The Carrera Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program is an evidence-based pregnancy prevention program with a goal to help young girls and boys not only develop their sexual literacy but also to help them develop personal goals and a desire for a productive future. The Carrera program has proven its effectiveness. It is the only 3-year fully evaluated teenage pregnancy prevention program, yielding a 50% reduction in birth rates in communities served in New York.
The program uses a holistic approach to empower youth. There are seven fundamental components: Education, Employment, Family Life & Sexuality Education (FLSE), Self –Expression, Lifetime Individual Sports, Mental Health and Medical/Dental Care. The Carrera after-school program will be implemented this fall in the following elementary schools: Langford, Earle and Mays; and will serve the 4th through 6th grades.
