Adopt a Family in Need this Holiday
Children’s Home + Aid in Bloomington, Illinois is looking for participants to help with their annual holiday Adopt-a-Family program. This holiday program will benefit families in need served within Children’s Home + Aid’s Central Region.
For over 30 years, The Adopt-a-Family program has been providing families in need with assistance during the holiday season. It is a comprehensive program as it provides families their household needs, clothing needs, as well as a “wish list” item or two. Last year, this holiday tradition helped more than 180 families, as well as the Scott Early Learning Center and the Butterfly Project, which received generous donations of gifts and supplies.
How you can help:
- Adopt an individual or family. Each donor is provided a list of necessities for an individual or family. They then shop for the items on the list and deliver the items to the Wrapping Center.
- Donate items from the Special Needs List. Provide a donation of loose gifts to help families during the holidays and throughout the year. For example: diapers, toys (of any kind), socks, underwear, sweat suits, etc. This option lets the donor purchase items to help families for the holidays and throughout the year. These items can be used for a profile where a donor wasn’t able to completely fill the needs of the family, or for families who were not able to be matched with a donor. Download the Special Needs List.
- Provide a monetary donation. Funds raised for the Adopt-A-Family Program are combined to provide for families who have not been adopted or for those having needs exceeding their donor’s giving potential. Any excess funds at the end of the program are used throughout the year to provide assistance to families when no other source of funding is available. An example of this use would be to provide eyeglasses to a child. >donate
- Volunteer. Volunteers are needed to check-in gifts to ensure the family’s needs are met, wrap the gifts and prepare them for delivery to the recipients in time for the holidays. Volunteers may also use monetary donations to shop for those who have not been adopted.
The Wrapping Center is located at 2901 East Empire Street, Bloomington, IL. The center will be open from Monday, November 3, 2014 to Wednesday, December 17, 2014 (we will be closed November 26-28 for Thanksgiving). The hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
