Providing Safe, Supervised Parent/Child Visitation

The Children’s Home + Aid Family Visitation Center (FVC) in McLean County provides a safe, neutral environment for supervised visits and exchanges between noncustodial parents and their children.  In cases of domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, sexual abuse, and high conflict divorce, the FVC offers safety to parents when there is court ordered non-custodial parent visitation. With strict guidelines and security policies the FVC provides a safe and secure environment for visitation.

Supervised visitation centers have arisen only in the past ten years as a response to domestic violence, and high conflict divorce cases outside of the child welfare system. Statistics indicate victims of domestic violence and their children are at greatest risk of harm up to a year after leaving their abuser and during child visits and exchanges. Visitation for children in foster care and their biological parents has existed for decades; however, only recently has supervised visitation been available solely for Family Court and victims of domestic violence.

The Family Visitation Center offers safety protocols that keep parents separated during visitation or exchange drop-off in compliance with orders of protection and no contact orders. The program offers a safe haven for parents and children and the nurturing setting offers a warm and comfortable environment for visitation.

Referrals to The Family Visitation Center come from Family Court, attorneys, therapists, mediators, psychologists, social workers, schools, the community, and parents themselves. Fees are on a sliding scale and based on income.

The Family Visitation Center was the recipient of the 2005 Program of Excellence Award from Prevent Child Abuse Illinois. In 2008, the FVC was presented the McLean County Bar Association Public Citizen Award, for significant contributions to the legal field.
