Tom Thumb Community Child Care Center

Since the 1970s, the Tom Thumb Community Child Care Center of Carpentersville has served at-risk children and families. Today, the center is the only subsidized early childhood education center in this high-need area.

The Tom Thumb Center serves 110 children ages 6 weeks to 6 years (80 of whom are between the ages of 3 to 5). Since its founding, children have been enrolled in the center based on three priorities: child abuse and neglect cases, adolescent parents, and lowest income families. Preschool for All programs are offered through the center.

Preschool for All

The Preschool for All program offered through the Center is a half-day instructional program based on the Creative Curriculum®, the academic approach that has been used widely in Head Start. Program activities are designed to help children develop problem-solving, self-regulation, communication, and critical thinking skills in preparation for the transition to kindergarten.
