Crisis Nursery
Shelter During Stressful Times
Knowing the unpredictable nature of emergencies, as well as the cumulative effect of stress on families, Children’s Home + Aid offers the Crisis Nursery program. The Crisis Nursery is here to help parents, caregivers, and guardians during difficult times. The Child Specialist staff of the Crisis Nursery provides nurturing and attentive care 24 hours / 7 days a week, to children ages birth through six years. Family Enhancement Specialists work with the parents or caregivers to help them through the crisis that led them to the Crisis Nursery.
The Crisis Nursery understands many families are isolated with little or no support systems. They offer a helping hand when parental stress caused by illness, addiction, domestic violence, homelessness and other issues overwhelms a parent. The goal of the Crisis Nursery program is to provide overburdened parents with facilitated breaks, crisis counseling, stress reduction therapy, family stability and positive parenting education. The Crisis Nursery offers supportive services that link parents and caregivers to community resources to help them cope and problem-solve.
Most importantly, research has shown the Crisis Nursery helps to greatly reduce parental stress that leads to child maltreatment. In its holistic approach to crisis management, the program provides basic needs services including access to hard goods such as formula, clothing, and diapers. The Crisis Nursery is an active and founding member of the Illinois Crisis Nursery Coalition.
The Crisis Nursery program is offered in the Mid-Central and Northern Regions.
